National Museums of Kenya Open 2025 Registration for Swahili Language and Culture Courses

The Research Institute of Swahili Studies of Eastern Africa (RISSEA), a department of the National Museums of Kenya’s Heritage Training Institute, is pleased to announce open registration for its 2025 Swahili Language and Culture Programs.

The Institute offers a rich curriculum designed to cater to learners at all levels, from beginners to advanced, as well as those with a special interest in Swahili history, literature, and identity. Classes are held at the National Museums of Kenya Headquarters in Nairobi, with face-to-face instruction led by seasoned language and cultural experts.

Four Specialized Modules Offered:

  • Kiswahili Language: Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced levels

  • Swahili Literature and Performance

  • Swahili Culture, History, and Identity

  • Anthropology of the Swahili

2025 Regular Course Schedule (4 Weeks Per Session)

Daily Class Timings

  • Morning: 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM / 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

  • Afternoon: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

About the Courses

  • Beginners’ Course: Focuses on foundational Swahili communication, including greetings, shopping, and travel.

  • Intermediate Course: Builds confidence in writing, translating, and reading Swahili texts.

  • Advanced Course: Explores complex grammar, literature, and Swahili poetry.

  • Full Immersion Crash Course: A one-week intensive programme prioritizing speaking and listening skills.
